The National Black Nurses Association
is pleased to announce this year's honorees for the NBNA
Nursing Awards at the 31st Annual Institute and Conference
of the National Black Nurses Association, July 30 - August
3, 2003, at the New Orleans Marriott. The awardees will
receive the honor at the President's Gala on Saturday, August
2, 2003.
Advanced Practice Nurse of the Year
To recognize excellence in the clinical area at the advanced
practice level.
Fedricker Diane Barber, RN MSN, ANP,
BC, AOCN is a nurse practitioner at the MD Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She holds a leadership position
in NBNA as Vice President of the Fort Bend County Texas
Black Nurses Association, 2001-2003.
Nurse of the Year for Community Service
To recognize outstanding and exemplary community service.
Veronica A. Clarke-Tasker, PhD, RN,
MBA, MPH, is the Associate Professor, Howard University
College of Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences,
Division of Nursing, Washington, DC. She is President of
the Black Nurses' Association of the Greater Washington,
DC Area, Inc.
Student Nurse of the Year
To recognize outstanding academic achievement.
Yvonne Olusi, BSN, is a May 2003
graduate of Texas Woman's University
Houston, TX and a member of the Fort Bend County Texas Black
Nurses Association, Inc.
The National Black Nurses Association, founded in 1971,
is a professional organization, representing 150,000 African
American registered nurses, licensed vocational/practical
nurses and nursing students. The mission of NBNA is to "investigate,
define and determine the health care requirements of African
Americans and other diverse communities to foster optimal
health and health care services commensurate with that of
the larger society."
