ASSOCIATE IN SCHOOL NURSING, SG-26
Location: Albany                    Salary: $72,492*

The NYS Education Department’s Office of P-16 Education, Regional School Improvement Student Support Services Team is seeking candidates to fill a position of Associate in School Nursing, Grade 26. The Student Support Services Team is responsible for managing programs and issues related to coordinated school health and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention. The team works cooperatively with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other State and local agencies on these critical health and safety issues. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Developing guidelines and interpreting HIV policies related to HIV education, infection control/universal precautions, confidentiality of HIV-infected students and staff, and other relevant HIV prevention issues;

• Monitoring, interpreting, synthesizing and disseminating relevant information associated with legal issues regarding HIV that impacts schools;

• Responding to proposed legislation regarding HIV and other school health services issues;

• Overseeing the implementation and evaluation of SED funded HIV prevention education programs;

• Developing strategies to integrate HIV educational programs with other school health program efforts;

• Fostering partnerships and collaboration with State and local health agencies in which school-based HIV prevention activities are complementary to community-based HIV prevention activities;

• Serving as the Department’s liaison to the NYS Department of Health and other offices within SED concerning HIV/AIDS prevention; .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For provisional appointment pending a Civil Service examination, candidates must possess a master's degree AND be licensed and registered by the New York State Education Department as a registered nurse AND have five years of professional experience as a school health nurse (K-12) or community/health nurse.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $88,422 based on annual performance advances.
